"A Short History of the Future"

A Short History of the Future, or, the Day That Would Change Margot Robbie’s Life Forever opened the NGO International Film Festival at the Treasury Theatre in Melbourne in October 2024 and the text was written especially for this event.

The performance staged a discussion between four characters, A, B, C, and D, trying to imagine a future beyond ecological disaster by making a movie starring Margot Robbie. In a satirical tone, the performance engages with the themes of the NGO International Film Festival’s, including ecological protection, Indigenous knowledge, and immigration.

A (male, 25-35) is an alarmist intellectual, trying to make the other characters see the big picture of the catastrophic trajectory that the world is heading in. The character represents a revolutionary perspective, urging the characters to contemplate an oftentimes theoretical insurrection.
